Getting Help
Need help? To resolve your issue as quickly as possible, please follow the five steps below.
Step 1 - Update Zotero
Upgrade Zotero when you aren't running the latest (stable) version, as your issue may have already been resolved in the most recent release.
The Zotero home page always leads you to the most recent release of Zotero. To check your installed Zotero version, select About Zotero from the Actions menu () in the Zotero toolbar or select Add-ons from Firefox's Tools menu and look for Zotero in the Extensions tab.
Step 2 - Check the troubleshooting pages
If something in Zotero appears not to be working correctly, check the Known Issues and Frequently Asked Questions pages. The following dedicated troubleshooting pages may also be helpful:
- Issues with Zotero data (e.g., library missing, restoring from a backup)
- Issues with file handling (e.g., PDFs opening in the wrong application)
Step 3 - Search the documentation
Search Zotero's documentation. You can use the search box at the top of every documentation page or the search box below.
Step 4 - Search the forums
Search through the Zotero forums, as your question may already have come up before. See Existing thread or new thread? before posting to an existing thread.
Step 5 - Post to the forums
If you can't find the answer to your question in the documentation or forums, post a message to the Zotero forums. Both Zotero developers and community members offer support through the forums.
If you are new to the Zotero forums, please read the forum guidelines and bug reporting procedures before posting.
Note: You need to create a Zotero account and log in to the Zotero website to post messages in the Zotero Forums.
