Valery Ann Jacobs
Across astronomy, lighting technology, photography and governance, my focus has always been on how we understand and apply light. I studied astronomy to understand the stars and enjoy the night sky, earned a PhD in lighting metrology to master how we measure and design light, and later obtained an executive master in governance to bring research into practice. Being part of MOBI, Europe’s largest research hub in Electromobility, I focus on visual (light) communication and road safety: making sure light guides, signals, and protects us. In 2023, diving also opened my eyes to another dimension: underwater beauty that depends on darkness, just like our night skies. That experience fuels my work on light pollution; once more combining measurement expertise with ecological and societal perspectives.
