I have 25 years' experience in scholarly publishing, with Macmillan, Scribners, Routledge, and Berg.  I was Publishing Director of Reference at Routledge from 1999 until I left to move to Chapel Hill in 2005.  My specialty is encyclopedias, and I am especially proud of projects that reached out in an interdisciplinary way to chronicle and analyze aspects of history and culture both in the U.S. and around the world that might have been hidden or ignored in the past, projects such as the Garland Encyclopedia of World Music and the forthcoming Berg Encyclopedia of Dress and Fashion.
