M.S. in Indology and science of religion, I started programming even before graduation and then worked in research projects on internet database technology (X.500/LDAP) and ended up setting up a company dealing with Open Source Identity Management and Digital Humanities, being involved in Research Infrastructure projects such as TextGrid and DARIAH-DE.
