Kristine Steenbergh
Kristine Steenbergh is a lecturer and researcher in English Literature at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She specialises in early modern English literature, and is especially interested in the history of emotions and (more recently) ecocriticism. She is currently conducting a four-year research project Moving Scenes: Compassion and Early Modern English Theatre - an NWO VENI project that will result in a monograph on the role of the theatre in experiencing, arousing, and thinking about compassion in early modern English culture. She looks at the way the theatre intervenes in contexts in which compassion is perceived to be under pressure in early modern culture, both through its representations of compassion and through arousing compassion in audience members.
She is one of the general editors of Cultural History and co-founder of the Amsterdam Centre for Cross-Disciplinary Emotions and Senses Studies (ACCESS - http://www.access-emotionsandsenses.nl)
