JaVar Myatt-Jones : Curriculum Vitae

JaVar Myatt-Jones worked hard to build a career as a physician. When he was in high school, he became fascinated with biology and the link between science and medicine. In 1996, he decided that he wanted to become a physician. He worked hard to earn a great education and to get accepted into Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and used that degree to earn a spot at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He worked hard to succeed in all of his classes so that he could build a successful career.

After two years of medical school, JaVar Myatt-Jones became the recipient of the Doris Duke Foundation Fellowship. He took time off of medical school so that he could participate in a two and a half year clinical research fellowship program. He developed a strong knowledge of clinical research and then returned to medical school. He graduated with his degree in 2009. Before he started his residency program, he helped create and run a medical practice that focused on weight loss and life style modification.

In 2011, Dr. Myatt-Jones applied for, and was accepted into a residency program in Chicago, Illinois. He began working as a family medicine resident at Saint Joseph Hospital in Chicago. While a resident, he was the family medicine representative for the Graduate Medical Education Committee. His responsibilities included developing and reviewing clinical training practices and procedures.

 In 2013, he became the chief executive resident. His responsibilities included mediating conflicts amongst residents in the family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, surgery, and podiatry programs. He also developed academic learning programs including weekly lectures and monthly rotations for residents interested in obesity and hospital administration. He had a number of other duties in this role.

JaVar Myatt-Jones has always been focused on developing his education and building his career. He cares about his patients and has a strong interest in preventative as well as integrative medicine. He always works hard to educate his patients about overall health and life style management. As a doctor, he has worked for a variety of outpatient treatment programs. He is a licensed physician in Alabama and he is a family medicine physician with Shoals Primary Care. Dr. JaVar Myatt-Jones works hard to care for his patients and continuously strive to improve his skills as a physician.
