Ingi Helgason
Since 2008 I have been studying, part time, towards a PhD at the Centre for Interaction Design at Edinburgh Napier University, where I also work as a researcher.
The subject of my research is interaction design, a field that many people have attempted to define. Currently I like this description, which places emphasis on context:
“Interaction design takes a holistic view of the relationship between designed artifacts, those that are exposed to these artifacts, and the social, cultural, and business context in which the meeting takes place.” Daniel Fallman, Design Issues, vol 24, issue 3
In my research I am studying the interactions created by new-media artists and considering how those kinds of experiences could be inspiring to interaction designers. As Tony Dunne says; “How can you design products that provide complex and complicated pleasures, that stimulate our imaginations, create dilemmas, make us think, and rather than smoothing out our lives, actually create glitches?”
