Using Friedrich von Adelung's 19th century catalog of travel writings to Russia (see bibliography), researchers at the University of Illinois are compiling a list of early modern travel accounts to Russia. Of particular interest to us are those authors who discuss issues of transport, migration and mobility, and more particularly the history of the Muscovite post-horse system, known as the 'iam.' Our goal is to pull Adelung's list into a uniform bibliographical format, and to make it more accessible to international scholars (as well as to inform our own research). We welcome collaborations, contact us for more information.
