I am a Research Fellow at the Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO) in the Religion, Morality and Boko in West Africa project. I was previously a Banting Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for African Studies at the University of Florida, and a Part-Time Professor at the University of Ottawa. I completed my Ph.D. in History at the Université Laval (Canada) with distinction in 2018.

My research is comparative and explores Islam and Muslim societies in Francophone West Africa from the 1950s to the present. I have conducted extensive fieldwork in Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Benin, and Togo, focusing on Islamic activism among youth and women, their appropriation of (new) media, and Muslim politics. Working within the digital humanities, I have developed methods for collecting, organizing and exploiting a broad array of written material that scholars in Islamic studies of Africa have often considered too scarce to be meaningfully employed.
