Erica Carlson Nicol

I specialize in providing research assistance and instruction for researchers in the Department of Anthropology, the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication, and the Department of Women's Studies.  I work on collection development for these programs as well.  Please let me know if you have a resource to recommend or request!

You may see me working at the Holland & Terrell Library reference desk, where I help people locate, access and evaluate information they need for their research and assignments.  You're always welcome to stop by and ask me a question.

Other parts of my job include web maintenance, teaching classes on research skills, and promoting good scholarly communication practices.

My current research interests are in the areas of reference services and library instruction. I am particularly interested in library anxiety, and in finding ways in which reference interviews and interactions can combat the various anxieties that students and faculty are faced with in an increasingly complex information environment. I am also fascinated by the ways in which Libraries present large numbers of options to patrons and am trying to find ways in which we can work to empower patrons instead of overwhelming them.
