Jesse Draper
I believe in free and open access to knowledge and creating space for a fair exchange of ideas.
With a PhD in U.S. History and over 18 years of teaching experience, I am passionate about fostering interdisciplinary and inclusive dialogue, promoting academic excellence and innovation, and supporting professional development and outreach.
When I was a graduate student in American Studies and History, H-Net connected me to an immense international community of scholars who provided the mentorship, training, and collaborative opportunities I needed to grow.
When I became the leader of this global network of scholars and educators, we built a strong team to develop new digital tools to advance research and teaching in the humanities and social sciences.
In 2020, the COVID pandemic threatened to wipeout 25 years of work as global austerity measures greatly impacted our operating revenues. But thanks to the GENEROUS support of our members, we bounced back stronger than ever.
My belief that people have the potential for remarkable achievement when they are imbued with trust and ownership has fueled organizational growth led by a powerful team of co-creators.
New challenges brought on by unprecedented structural and economic changes in academia offer us an opportunity to lean into this historical moment.
H-Net is committed to our vision of the humanities and social sciences transformed by the immense potential of digital technologies and oriented around moderated intellectual exchange, collaborative production, and the open dissemination of knowledge.
