Background:

 

I am a linguist specializing in English Language and Linguistics (especially, of English and Arabic). I received my B.Ed. in English from Hodeidah University in 1996, my M.A. in Linguistics from JNU, New Delhi, India in 2006, and Ph.D. in Linguistics from AMU, U.P., India in 2010.

 

Research Interests:

 

I conduct research in the field of Tihami Yemeni Arabic Linguistics with a special emphasis on Phonetics, Phonology, Morphophonology/Morphophonemics, Morphology, and Morphosyntax. My research also extends to teaching linguistic courses, teaching English as a foreign language. Translation projects from Arabic to English and vice versa also occupy an important area of my work.

 

Teaching:

Currently, I am teaching English Language and English Linguistics courses including: Writing 1 & 2, Introduction to Language I and II, Phonetics and Phonology of English, Morphology and Syntax, Contrastive Analysis and Error Analysis (English-Arabic), Research Methodology, and a number of other courses in the field of English language and linguistics for both the B.Ed. and M.Ed. students.

Ph.D Scholar doing Ph.D research in the Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, Aligarh Muslim University (A.M.U.) under the supervision of Prof. S. Imtiaz Hasnain; the title of my Ph.D. research is REVOWELLING  VS  AFFIXATION IN PLURAL  FORMATION  ASSIGNED TO  NOUNS  AND ADJECTIVES  AND THEIR  AGREEMENT  IN  TIHAMI YEMENI ARABIC”.One year before getting the Ph.D degree I had a good experienceas being responsible for Teaching “Phonemics” for first year B.A students of Linguistics in the Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, Aligarh Muslim University (A.M.U.), India.

v    September 2002 to 2004:

Demonstrator in the Department of English, college of Education, Zabid Hodeidah University, Yemen. Responsible for teaching First year English students the course viz, Writing (1) & (2) teaching First Year Mathematics & Chemistry and Islamic students the course English 101 & 102 ; Also responsible for supervising Teaching practice groups.

 

v    December 1996-August 2002:

Volunteer Teacher of English in one of Zabid Schools. Responsible for secondary School students, Grade 8 and Forms 10, 11 & 12 for three days. The other three days of the week I was responsible for teaching in the Zabid High Institute which is in the same building of the college of Education, Zabid. I was responsible for Teaching Listening Comprehension, Spoken English and Reading for 1­st & 2nd Year English students. Meanwhile I was working as a volunteer Teacher in the college, responsible for teaching writing (1) & (2) and English 101 & 102. I also was supervising Teaching Practice groups.
