Daniel Hora

Assistant Professor, Visual Arts Department, Federal University of Espirito Santo (UFES). My research interests embrace arts, technology and media theory and criticism, focusing on post-digital aesthetics, open source and hacker culture, and generative arts.

I am one of the directors of Fresta (technical Images and Errant Devices) research group. I am also member of Curating and Contemporary Art research group (Ufes) and Ambiente 33 (Spatialities, Communication, Aesthetics e Technologies) research group. The last one is a inter-institutional initiative, involving the University of Brasilia (UNB) Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, where I was a postdoctoral research fellow from 2015 to 2017.

I have a PhD in Contemporary Arts from the University of Brasília (2015) and was a Fulbrighter visiting PhD researcher at the Visual Arts Department, University of California San Diego (UC San Diego), from 2013 to 2014. I was awarded in 2009 the Itaú Cultural ‘Cybernetic Art’ prize (academic research category).

During doctoral research, I worked under the guidance of Professor Maria Beatriz de Medeiros (UnB), and conducted part of my studies at the University of California, San Diego, under Professor Brett Stalbaum supervision. While a postdoctoral research fellow, I was supervised by Professor Miguel Gally (UnB).
