I am the director of agricultural research and development for the world's largest grower. (A. D. Makepeace produced approximately 31 million pounds of cranberries last year on approximately 2000 acres of bog. (300 bogs in production). The company is the largest private landholder in Massachusetts, with approximately 13,000 acres, just a few miles from Cape Cod, most of it still in forests and lakes & ponds). My time is primarily spent conducting studies on fertilization, irrigation, pollination, evaluating new varieties, and biomass waste utilization (e.g. composting), acting as an inhouse agricultural consultant, and giving lectures to our foremen/assistant foremen.
