British Institute for Libyan and Northern African Studies (BILNAS)

This catalogue records the books and pamphlets owned by the British Institute for Libyan and North African Studies (BILNAS), formerly the Society for Libyan Studies, as a result of many generous donations. They are held on our behalf by the Library of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. Members of the Institute may use the Library on presentation of proof of membership.

The Library originates from the collection of the late Professor R.G. Goodchild, former Controller of Antiquities in Libya and Professor of the Archaeology of the Roman Provinces at London University. It was first described in the article 'The Library of the Libyan Society' published in Annual report - Society for Libyan Studies Volume 1 (1970), 19-22: doi: 10.1017/S0263718900009584. This online catalogue was initiated by Charlotte Roueché, and is principally the work of the Society's Library Scholar (2018), Dr Celeste Gianni.

Our work is made possible by the generous support of our hosts, the Library at SOAS, and our Honorary Librarian, Dawn Wright.
