My main research area is language description. I also have a strong interest in historical linguistics, and a lasting commitment to langage documentation: to build and exploit reliable, high-quality databases of rare and endangered languages. I am a contributor to the Pangloss Collection.

Since 2024, due to a focus on Naish languages (Na and Naxi) I am less active in experimental phonetics/phonology.
