PROFILE

    • 24 years international work experience in international higher education of which 10 years in executive roles with board accountability, and as public and private sector consultant in environmental economics and policy.

    • PhD (1994) in Economic and Business History from European University Institute, thesis published with Cambridge University Press, 3 months researcher’s secondment at London School of Economics. Pioneering historian in use of Geographical Information System to analyze 19th century railway and port traffic data. First Dutch historian to publish on Italian history with Cambridge University Press.

- Formulated and implemented strategic plan and obtained Council approval for campus Master Plan http://www.unitechpng.com

      - Facilitated campus infra-structure rehabilitation overseeing over 13 projects incl. building 23 staff houses, opening staff restaurant, ATM, road surfacing, etc.

- Obtained unqualified audit reports for first time in over 20 years, balanced budget for 2017, increased industry support with 1,000%.

- Built earth stations for O3B broadband internet satellite system, becoming first university in the world to adopt this system.

- Obtained approval by the Academic Board for institutional accreditation, and accreditation of engineering programs as per the Washington Accords.

- Signed over 22 MoUs e.g. AusAid, James Cook University, Queensland University of Technology, OK-Tedi Mining, and Newcrest.

- Started an EMBA program, Post Graduate Certificate of Student-Centred teaching, and the entrepreneurship program and business incubator.

- Appointed as Adjunct Professor of the Cairns Institute of James Cook University.

- Increased research funding from less than €500.000 euros in 2007, to over €2.5 million in 2009 and 2010, and coordinated grant submission efforts of over €10M million annually. Responsible for total portfolio of about €40 million. Helped prepare around 45 grant proposals per year, among which around 15 Marie Curie Fellowships, and 10 VENI proposals for the Netherlands Science Foundation NWO.

- Represented Maastricht University and the Faculty abroad as member of University’s “Turkey Team”, lobbyist in Brussels for Maastricht University; and coordinator of a staff exchange programme coordinator with India.
