Import/Export Field Mappings

Please note that Zotero and most of the formats listed on this page are in active development, which may render some of this information out-dated from time to time. Zotero Support Documentation: Import/Export


Only specific Zotero metadata fields are compatible with fields in other formats (i.e. RIS, MODS). Depending on which format is chosen for import/export, specific data will translate across formats while others will not.


The selected format’s fields that correspond with Zotero fields vary because Zotero fields differ across different media/reference types (books, articles, journals, etc.).


Zotero RDF is the only format that imports/exports attached files and notes. RIS or MODS can import/export notes, but not attachments. All other formats only include information gathered from Zotero item metadata fields (attachments or notes are not imported/exported).
