This is the community bibliography for a General Studies class taught at Richard Stockton College called "Culture and Representation."
Course Description:
What is "representation"? A deceptively simple concept, "representation" has now come to animate many issues in a wide array of political and cultural contexts.
In this class, we will read prominent cultural critics on how to unpack the notion of "representation" from the fields of cultural studies, philosophy, semiotics and literary theory. We will then explore the implications of these theories through studying the question of "representation" through the lenses of popular culture, the politics of museum exhibits, race and "otherness," and the concept of gender.
