PhD candidate in History at the University of Chicago studying Latin American cities at the turn of the twentieth century. During the 2011-2012 academic year, I'll be in São Paulo, Brazil, as a Mellon IIE Graduate Fellow, attempting to understand how theaters functioned during the First Republic as a key arena in which visions for Brazil's "modern city" were articulated, debated, and literally performed.
