In some fields the order of the authors does not in any way reflect the main author. In some cases the PI on a project is listed last. In other cases researchers are listed alphabetically. In any case it would be nice to be able to distinguish the primary author of a work for sorting irrespective of the order for people in a bibliographic citation. 

There are probably a few ways to do it. It might make sense to just stick it in a right click option on any contributor and when it is set give some feedback to the user. (possibly change the color slightly on the  primary author field.)
