Description

This may be a bug--doesn't seem to be a particular style issue, since it works neither in Chicago nor MLA

(In [2301]) - closes #933, subsequent-author-substitute no longer works

  • fixes an issue that could produce the following error in Zotero when generating a bibliography:

Error: names[j] has no properties
Source file: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/cite.js
Line: 2590

Subsequent-author-substitute is still buggy for me. It somehow counts no authors as duplicate authors, and ignores editor-translator-as-author substitutions. I.e. I get:

Silverstein, Theodore, trans. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1974.

---. Georgia: Art and Civilization through the Ages. Edited by Ori A. Soltes. London: Philip Wilson, 1999.

---. The Chicago Manual of Style. 14th ed. Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1993.

When I should get:

should fix issues with no authors. still need to come up with some way to make subsequent-author-substitute work for subsequent editors and translators, but this is a more difficult problem.

Another related problem:

It seems to me there ought to be a way to set the substitution to happen without any string added. This is needed for support for a number of key humanities styles.

Can we get this to a higher priority? It's been noted as a problem by many users in the forums, and it blocks a few key humanities styles (AAA and derivatives). Endnote can't do these styles very well either, so supporting these styles might boost Zotero adoption in this academic field.
