Revised the description to suggest revisions that make most sense to me but this should be resolved w/ Bruce before deciding on a final solution. See also a relevant forum request.

  • Ticket #867 – Description

    initial v2
1 To make "document" item type usable, the following fields need to be added/changed:
1Possible steps to fix this (would need revision in CSL as well as Zotero)
    22
3 1. add "place" - to enter place of creation/publication
     31. Document:
    44
5 2. add "type" - to enter the type of document
     5a) rename as "published document"
    66
7 3. add "cite as published/unpublished" toggle field - to note whether the document is published or not.
7b) add "place" - to enter place of creation/publication
    88
9 4. change "publisher" to "publisher/institution" - to denote that users can enter the name of the institution where, say, a working paper was drafted (but not published), for example:
9c) add "type" - to enter the type of document
     10
11d) set "published document" as a fallback for all published documents instead of "book" because there have been [http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_name=fbb7c5df0801170714h38c9a37bu61d18cabb85d8886%40mail.gmail.com problems] with "book" as a fallback
     12
     132. Manuscript
     14
     15a) rename as "unpublished document"
     16
17b) add "institution" field, to enter the name of the institution where, say, a working paper was drafted (but not published), for example:
    1018
1119I. Clark, “Should the IMF Become More Adaptive?” Working Paper WP/96/11 (Washington, DC: International Monetary Fund, 1996).

    1321
14 5. In cite.js/CSL, add a variable for published/unpublished; set fallback type as "book" if published, "article" if unpublished.
    15
16 Alternatively, you can split "document" into "published document" and "unpublished document" (the latter could replace "manuscript" item type). This could make the interface less confusing for the user and will make it easier to format CSL.
22c) set "unpublished document" as a fallback for all unpublished documents
