Description

See Dan's comments for #571: Now, maybe there now needs to be an option to determine whether a drag copies the citation or the reference, since the reference is only copied once and the citation might be copied many times...

Perhaps holding down a modifier key should allow the user to copy a bibliography entry if the option is set to copy the citation, or vice versa.

or we could forego a checkbox in preferences altogether and just set it to always copy a citation if dragged without a modifier key and a bibliography entry with the key.

A bunch of other related issues which make the quick copy confusing at the moment (to me, at least). This is from the dev version.

In the Quick Copy prefs the text still refers only the Cmd-Shift-C shortcut--should it also mention Cmd-Shift-A?

In "Shortcut Keys" prefs the difference between "Copy Selected Item Citations to Clipboard" and "Copy Selected Items to Clipboard" does not seem immediately obvious to me. Moreover, if I select an export style like RIS, Cmd-Shift-C and Cmd-Shift-A copies the same text. Should the two options be "Copy Selected Items to Clipboard (Foot/Endnote Citations)" and "Copy Selected Items to Clipboard (Bibliographic References)," or something?

The last two are perhaps the result of Bruce's odd division into two footnote Chicago Style citation formats:

For Chicago Notes without Bibliography, Cmd-Shift-C copies a footnote reference prefaced with "1. " but Cmd-Shift-A copies the same footnote reference without the number. Not clear why this should be the case, particularly given that for all other styles, Cmd-Shift-C always copies a bibliographic reference with no numbers.

It is also very annoying that I have to select Chicago Without Bibliography in prefs to copy a full footnote citation, then manually switch to Chicago With Bibliography to copy a subsequent short citation. Then when I move on to a book/article I haven't cited before, I have to manually switch to Chicago Without Bibliography again to get the long citation.

Here is one possible solution to Bruce's formatting oddities: It would be great if for Chicago Note Without Bibliography Cmd-Shift-C copied a full footnote (with no "1. ") and Cmd-Shift-A copied a short footnote.

(In [2890]) Closes #734, option to determine if a drag copies a citation or a reference

Holding down Shift before the start of the drag now copies a citation instead of a full bibliography entry.
