#266 closed defect (fixed)

failure to load in ubuntu

Reported by: dcohen Owned by: nobody
Priority: major Milestone: 1.0.0

Description (last modified by dcohen)

A couple of beta testers have written to say that they were unable to install it in Ubuntu. Raymond Yee has specifics:

"In Ubuntu (Breezy Badger), running FF 2.0b2 -- run on VMWare -- get the following error in trying to install the extension:

Firefox could not install the file at

http://www.zotero.org/download/zotero-1.0b1-06b4b402cd19.xpi

because: Not a valid install package
-207"

"Dear Dan:

I can't install the xpi file for the Zotero Beta. After I enter the
private beta username and password, and click 'install' in the Firefox
dialogue, I get an error that Firefox could not install the file at
http://www.zotero.org/download/zotero-1.0b1-06b4b402cd19.xpi because of
Download Error -228. This is not a security related error, and I am a
bit stumped on why this error recurs. I am using Firefox 2.0b2 on Ubuntu
Linux. Any ideas? I'm looking forward to installing Zotero and taking it
for a test drive.

Best,

Shekhar"

Not sure about this one -- works for me and Simon on various Linux installs (Fedora and Ubuntu).

Obviously until we figure it out you can tell them to download the XPI from another browser or wget with the auth flags (if they haven't yet) and drag it in to install it...

Will keep this open for the public beta in case others report it, but I suspect these were due to a bug in BonEcho on Linux, possibly related to the authentication used on the beta XPI.
