    1 Add a way to base item types on other types -- this is needed both to allow the creation of custom item types with fallback to standard types for export, [http://chnm.grouphub.com/projects/310105/msg/cat/2333974/2995041/comments#3447680 as Elena suggested], as well as to allow us to add a whole bunch of secondary built-in types (Letter in Book) that do the same thing. 
     1Schema is in place for this but not code. This is needed to allow the creation of custom item types with fallback to standard types for export, [http://chnm.grouphub.com/projects/310105/msg/cat/2333974/2995041/comments#3447680 as Elena suggested].
