Scholar does not refresh the item pane when a new collection is clicked

Description

Scholar is somehow becoming undefined within the context of itemTreeView.js when windows are closed.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Open a second window.
  3. Close the second window.
  4. Try using the Scholar pane in the first window. Switching collections will not work.

(In [533]) closes #209, Scholar does not refresh the item pane when a new collection is clicked

it's possible that this fix will introduce some bugs, but it appears to work fine
