This may not be necessary, since the tree already supports find-as-you-type.

At least for me, in 3.1, it works on a string. If I have a collection "Zotero" and a collection "Zorro", typing "Zor" selects the latter.

For the record: turns out find-as-you-type doesn't work with spaces and cycles through titles if you type the same character twice. Otherwise, it works as advertised.
Note: See
TracTickets for help on using
tickets.
Find-as-you-type seems to only work for the first character in the collection title, which doesn't help if you use numbers to sort your collections -- (20 most important collections begin with 1, 20 less important begin with 2, etc.) It would be nice to be able to find via a string of first characters.
