To install the plugin by hand,
When troubleshooting the add-on after having installed it, we recommend starting with step 4.
To install the plugin by hand,
The correct folder can be found in the Options window of Word:
Open the Tools menu and click Options. Under the 'File Locations' tab you will find the Startup directory.
Click the Microsoft Office Button in the top-left corner (in Word 2010 the “File” tab replaces the Microsoft Office Button), and then click Word Options. Click Advanced. Under General, click File Locations. The Startup folder should be listed there. Select it and click modify. Placing the cursor in the location bar at the top of the window will allow you to copy the complete path to the Startup folder. Click Cancel to close the dialog.
In many cases, no Start-up folder will be set at all. These instructions direct you to set the startup folder to a standard location. You may already find the Zotero.dot file in it.
Click on “Word” in bold next to Apple in the Mac applications menu and select “Preferences” in the drop-down options. Click on “File locations” under “Personal settings” and click on “Start up” at the bottom of the list. This will list your startup folder location.
If there is no location, click “modify'” and select a path along the lines of ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Startup/Word, where UBF8T346G9 is a random string that will be different on your computer. If you can't find the Library folder, it may be hidden. You can show hidden folders in Finder using the option key. You can then press Cmd-Shift-G in any file dialog to get a place to type the path or you can drag a folder from the Finder (which you accessed with the Option key) into the file dialog to select that folder.
On non-English systems or in certain custom setups, these locations may be different.
