Participatory Media Committee Member
National Association of Biology Teachers (Spring 2010-present)
Working with three other committee members, developed a plan for the Board of Directors to increase the use of participatory media in the NABT community. The purpose is to attract and retain members as well as educate biology teachers about new technology strategies in the classroom. Currently produce short, video lessons for teachers on how to use technology in the classroom. Videos are published on the NABT website.
Standardized Testing and Teacher Performance Scorer
Educational Testing Service (2008-present)
Grade the Praxis II middle school science exam and the AP Biology exam for the ETS. Goal is to increase knowledge of standardized testing development and recognize the different strategies available to improve students’ success on standardized tests. Starting in January 2011, evaluate teacher performance videos as part of an ETS collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in order to test new strategies to assess teacher performance.
Biology Textbook Teacher’s Edition Writer
CK12 (Summer 2009)
Created an assessment package for an online biology textbook produced by CK12. Developed teacher strategies, lab activities, quizzes, and tests for several chapters of the biology textbook. Designed these products for chapters on Mendelian genetics, molecular genetics, evolution, and population genetics.

Research & Curriculum Design, Cellular & Molecular Biology Department
Yale University (Summer 2009 & Summer 2010)
Under an NIH grant (Project #5R01NS056443-04) and the direction of Dr. Michael Nitabach at Yale University, measured circadian rhythm disturbance in Drosophila melanogaster caused by genetic expression of a spider venom gene. Designed a high school biology Drosophila curriculum to be piloted in spring 2011.

National Science Foundation (March 2009)
The ITEST program is designed to increase the number of students who enter and are prepared for a STEM-related career. Received invitation from the head of the program, David Campbell, to rate grant proposals based on their intellectual merit and broader impact. Improved grant writing skills and understanding of the educational research process.

The Synapse (2008 – present)
In 2008, collaborated with several nationwide biology teachers to create an online social network for biology teachers. Currently, continue as a site administrator which allows for testing out new teaching strategies and acquiring advice from a vast number of practicing science teachers. Judge for the 2010 Research Blogging Awards

Invited to be a judge for the 2010 SEED Media Group Research Blogging competition by Dave Munger, editor. Research Blogging is a news aggregating website that collects expert online analysis of peer-reviewed science research. Under the supervision of Dr. Alan Springer, collected blood and lipid samples from eight species of seabird to determine how upper trophic-level predators respond to long-term climate change.

Supervised the rehabilitation of injured and oiled seabirds. Managed a wildlife rescue team in the capturing of distressed birds.
