Srikanth Dabdotkar
I am passionate about what I do for living; I teach and I do research. My teaching interests and my research pursuits inform each other. My teaching philosophy is a direct reflection of how my research background blends with my personal experiences, which shaped me as a person that I am now. I research how college students evaluate informal arguments, a skill that is essential for students to succeed in college. Further, I examine how students' beliefs about knowledge and learning affect how they evaluate information. My research not only guide my teaching methods, but it has the potential to inform educators to develop effective ways of teaching. I involve students, both undergraduate and graduate, in my research. Working with students and mentoring them is fulfilling experience. More importantly, it is also my only way to pay forward because that is how I learned from my teachers. I received my Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from Northern Illinois University in August of 2012; since then, I have been working as a full-time instructor in the department of psychology at Eastern Illinois University.
