Following successful completion of both a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal arts and a Bachelor of Science degree in geology, Shawn joined the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) as a cartographer in the Soil Science – MLRA Soil Survey and working on the GIS/NRI team for the MO-16 regional office located in Little Rock.  In 2006 she joined the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission (ANRC) as the floodplain management specialist where she became a a  Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM^®), administered the state Floodplain Accreditation Program, and managed the floodplain database. She also developed economical and practical means in providing new floodplain information to communities in Arkansas, and was instrumental in assisting Arkansas communities with administration of their National Flood Insurance Programs through Community Assistance Visits. She is currently the program manager for the Non-Riparian Program at ANRC where her primary focus is on surface water management in for the state. She earned her GIS Professional (GISP) Certification in May 2014 and is currently working on a Master’s Degree in Geospatial Surveying Engineering through Texas A & M University – Corpus Christi.
