Sarah Van Deusen Phillips

I hold my doctorate in Comparative Human Development from the University of Chicago, where my reserach focused on ethnographic approaches to understanding the role of multi-modal langauge in the language development in orally educated deaf children in Spain.  My current independent reserach focuses on gesture in Spanish/English bilinguals.  In addition to this work, I currently hold a position as the Project Coordinator in Human Rights at the Center for Research Libraries in Chicago as an in-house consultant.  I am conducting ethnographic and quasi-structured survey research of how human rights organizations think about and engage in documentation practices.
