Pierre Musitelli

I am currently a Junior Fellow of the Institut Universitaire de France, an associate professor at the École normale supérieure in Paris, where I am Deputy director of the Institut des Textes et Manuscrits Modernes (ITEM, CNRS, UMR 8132). I work on the circulation and patrimonial legacy of Italian manuscripts (14th-19th c.), on the constitution of the literary canon, on Enlightenment correspondence networks between Italy and France, and on criminal law reforms (Beccaria, Verri).

Main project : Looking into a little-known corpus of 18th-c Italian novels, my project aims at shedding light on the critical and ethical functions of what has been termed a “minor” literary genre in the Italian Enlightenment, to map out movements and transfers (through translation and adaptation) between Italy and Europe, and analyse the changing relationships among printers, authors, and readers in the Peninsula, from the Enlightenment to the Revolution.
