Current position

Data manager, Information Technology Services, Australian National University.

Responsible for the development and information of a range of repository solutions to allow capture, archive, creation and reuse of the ANU's scholarly outputs.   Successfully delivered the ANDS finded project to develop a data capture and management solution for the University and the development of a metadata store solution to relate researchers to outputs and reserach activities. Previously responsible for  the management of the ANU's contribution into Project Bamboo

Responsible for ensuring the delivery of all production services, including windows, unix and linux servers, web services, email services, VLE, corporate database services, student filestore and printing, filestore provision, student desktop provision including software distribution, backup and archiving of data

 

Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) - Project Manager Digital Asset Management System, and latterly Information Technology Manager  

Design, specification, procurement, delivery installation and configuration of a digital asset management system to allow the Institute to preserve recordings of Aboriginal speech and oral history for posterity.

Bringing the Institute's website back in house and migrating it to a content management system.

Various specialist sub projects, including network and system upgrades, as well as routine system management

University of York, UK Head of Technical Services, Computing Service  

In my 17 years at the University of York I held a number of roles.

In my final role as Head of Technical Services I was responsible for special projects including the replacement of the University's backup solution, storage management and consolidation, and replacement of the printing management solution. I also served on various national committees including the UK Mirror Service steering group, and was chair of the UCISA Systems Forum. and help negotiate a number of equipment supply contracts, covering areas from hardware maintenance through computer supply to  storage and backup provision both on behalf of the University and regional consortia of UK Universities.

Previous to that I held the post of Head of Personal Systems, responsible for whole of campus desktop computing provision including network architecture, software environment, equipment supply and purchase arrangements and server provision, including tender and procurement management.

Prior to that my primary role was that of technology evangelist, recruited to promote the use of desktop computing within the university.

Llysdinam Field Centre (University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology) Computer Officer  

Responsible for computer support for resident researchers, liaison with central computing service in Cardiff, and project management.
