Mike Gretes, PhD
Mike is a founder of Mind the Health Gap, a not-for-profit collaboration that exists to speed the development and deployment of health technology for marginalized communities.  Mike has a combined background in access to medicines advocacy work and bench science, enabling him to create, conceptualize, and work with biomedical knowledge to ensure it benefits everyone. Supported by top national fellowships, he earned his PhD in Biochemistry in 2009 at the University of British Columbia, applying protein crystallography to the discovery and development of new antibiotics. Highlights of his advocacy career include collaborating to launch the Global Access Licensing program at UBC and leading the international Neglected Diseases Working Group of Universities Allied for Essential Medicines.
Mike is working to shape R&D capacity to meet the priority needs of people living in poverty. He also believes in the power of catchy phrases and well-crafted acronyms.
