Brandon Gray Miller

Hello,

I'm a doctoral candidate in the Department of History at Michigan State University currently writing a dissertation entitled, "The Young Men of '56: Masculinity, Consumption, and Soviet Bodies after Stalin."

Generally speaking, my research interests center on the ways in which consumptive and gender politics and practices intersect with distinctive vision(s) of modernity articulated in the years after Stalin's death.  In this way, I see the Soviet Union as engaging in an active dialogue about the nature of its social and cultural position within the wider "Western" world.

While my dissertation focuses mainly on Soviet projects, I am also interested in related developments around the world, including "the global 1960s," consumerism, sexual politics, and competing claims over modernity.

Feel free to contact me regarding these issues.
