Organization

Hmm, now that I think of it, maybe organizing this by publication type doesn't make sense after all, since Zotero does that already on its own. I can't think of any other useful organizations, though. Any ideas? I mean, it would sort of make sense to separate theory from practice, but I'm really far more interested in theory here, and there'd be so many cross-listed titles anyway (Szulborski, e.g.) that it would quickly become a useless distinction. Separating transmedia, cross-media, etc. seems similarly useless and arbitrary.

Maybe there should be a distinction between popular press/MSM coverage of ARGs and more critical approaches?

Yeah, that's the distinction I had in mind in creating the publication-type collections. I'm certainly interested in gathering both popular and critical stuff here, though, I must admit, for different reasons. Maybe it would make sense to just let the organization stay at a more individual layer through the use of tagging?

Totally agree -- differentiating provenance via collections is essential for a project like this. That said, there's often a lot more depth of understanding to be found in fan/practitioner affinities around ARGs than there is in academia right now. Although there are certainly a handful of superior critical papers and ethnographies (Dena, McGonigal, etc) my experience has been that ARG designers and thought leaders from the player community have consistently had more to offer in this space -- which is why any bibliographical resource we might want to construct here would be remiss if it didn't reach into those pools of expertise. Which means finding a way of incorporating non-institutional publication outlets, "mainstream" press accounts and interviews, videos from fan/designer-driven events like ARG Fest-o-con, blog posts, forum interactions, etc.
