Hi Jennifer,
You raise an interesting question. Why not "emotions"? I don't have a really good answer, except that "affect" was the term that was being used in the literature. The terms are equivalent as far as I am concerned, along with "feelings" and "sentiment". Is it a more all-inclusive term of the non-rational side of consciousness? Is it a term for squeamish academics who do not want to talk about "love"? (Perhaps my position!) Does the term include pre-emotional level, a realm of undefined feelings and dispositions, whatever that means? Anyway it is definitely something to discuss amongst ourselves and in the introduction to the volume if we get that far. Do you mind if I post this discussion on our Zotero group blog?
