Nancy, I'll try again. It looks like we are in the same boat, I know nothing about IR's and you know nothing about historical research. Historical research is more intuitive than you think, it's about making connections between people, places, and events that occurred in the past. Sort of like putting a jigsaw puzzle together.

Nancy, for some reason I'm unable to pull up the list of names in the lower left-hand corner of zotero, but I did locate my article in the group library. When I selected the URL, the full article displayed. You might try it again. And yes, a comparison of how historians search for information in the archives and how others go through the same process is necessary and appropriate. I just finished an e-mail to a first year public history student who is researching immigrants in the Fountain Square community. Our mutual professor made her aware that I had researched an immigrant community also so she contacted me for some advice. Although the ethnic groups and the locations are different, I sent her the biblio of my historiography and gave her some input on where to start looking for info. Other than the IHS, the IHB, and the state library, can you guess where I sent her?

Karen, I really enjoyed your article. I was especially struck by the summary and recommendations that suggested an outreach to prisons. I think the emphasis is generally on adult literacy for inmates (correct me if I'm wrong). I can see where more research is needed to determine if prison outreach includes helping prison parents maintain relationships with their children through reading and literacy and if that outreach is successful for both parent and child. Does anyone know if there is any data on that topic or if that is a part of prison outreach?

Robert, I'm afraid I have to agree with the others in that I fail to see any data in this article. I do find it an interesting topic. In doing a little bit more research, I located the following article in JSTOR and uploaded it to my folder: Free Speech and Multiculturalism in and out of the Academy, Dennis Chong, Political Psychology, Vol. 27, No. 1 (Feb., 2006), pp. 29-54. This article reports on a longitudinal study investigating changing viewpoints on racist speech on campuses. I think this could be an interesting research topic here on the IUPUI campus with traditional, non-traditional,and multi-cultural students. And, I'm in agreement with you, Oncourse is much easier to use for Forum discussions. Good luck on your research project!

Lisa, You are clever, making Zorro interesting. Did you send her to the IUPUI Archives -- in the basement -- the little room in the left corner? Does the Fountain Square Area have an IMCPL branch library, surely they have local history somewhere, maybe at their Chamber of Commerce? Really, who is the keeper of Duckpin Bowling History, brass elevators, and chocolate syrup Coca-Cola sodas? The IMCPL Central Library would be a good place to send her. What about the library at the Indiana State Museum, assuming there is one? I don't know, where did you tell her go to find out more?

I'll tell you in class, but first I have to figure out how to put my paper on Zotero.
