Best Practices for Contributing to our Language Documentation Zotero Group Library:
Zotero is a powerful research tool. One of its flashier features is the ability to automatically create bibliographical entries from metadata on websites and in PDFs. Unfortunately, Zotero's default settings cause the actual PDF documents and snapshots of web pages to be stored in the library along with the reference. While this sounds convenient, it eats up our collective free storage space in no time flat.
SO...
Please ensure that you DO NOT catalog documents, web snapshots, or web links with the entries you contribute.
In order to assist you in accomplishing this feat, please adjust your Zotero settings as follows:
1) Click on the gear icon (Settings) and choose 'Preferences'.
2) On the 'General' tab, click off the checked boxes that say "Automatically take snapshots when creating items from web pages" and "Automatically attach associated PDFs and other files when saving items"
3) You might also want to adjust the auto delete time frame for removal of items from the trash bin; the default is 30 days or older. Whenever you delete something from the group library, you must also empty the trash. Otherwise, the storage space is still being used.
4) Now click 'OK' at the bottom of the window, and you're ready for action!
Thank you for your help in ensuring that we have plenty of room to grow...for free!
Respectfully,
Group Owner
