Title: Click It, No More Tick It: Online Reference Statistics
Summary: Aguilar et al.’s article describes the common problems with recording reference statistics – definitions, method of recording, time absorbed by recording – and provides an overview of how their institution, Zimmerman Library at the University of New Mexico, addressed these challenges. Based on a self-analysis documented in their White Paper, the Libraries further sought personnel input by hosting library wide forums on recording statistics. To record statistics, the University Libraries created a database through which personnel could enter library data. Implementation of the database let service points discuss definitional issues (i.e., reference vs. directional) and provided good information for collection development purposes. Aguilar et al. concludes with suggestions from the Libraries personnel, which range from applications for mobile devices to training on correct usage of database to greater flexibility in selecting features during transaction input.
