Title: A tool for all places: a web-based reference statistics system
Summary: Smith describes the common problems with recording reference statistics – definitions, method of recording, time absorbed by recording – and provides an overview of how his university, Texas A & M University Libraries, addressed the challenge. To record statistics, the University Libraries created a database through which students and personnel could enter library data. Implementation of the database let service points discuss definitional issues (i.e., reference vs. directional) and allowed some flexibility in regards to the length of transaction record (especially during busy times). Smith concludes that this database is now used at multiple service points throughout the University Libraries.
