I am the founder of EMANCIPATION STUDIES which is an educational project designed to support college attendance, enhance political and media literacy, and nurture a personal culture of leadership. The goal of the program is to cultivate these skill sets in ways that allow students to instantiate themselves through school, family, and direct community involvement. The mission of Emancipation Studies is to forward and in some cases introduce consciousness oriented learning amongst students from marginalized communities.

The inspiration for Emancipation Studies finds its genesis in the philosophies of previous educational models of emancipatory pedagogy such as the Citizenship and Freedom Schools in Mississippi during the Black Freedom Movement (Civil Rights Movement).

Emancipation Studies' aim is to extend the long tradition of revolutionary academic endeavors which engage in a didactic look at the everyday exemplars of courage and compassion abundantly present within historiographies of liberation. Moreover, the program's agenda is to assist students toward a critical examination of the empowering political dimensions and transforming dynamics at work within various movements that struggle toward, social, political, economic, and cultural freedom with equity of justice at grassroots levels.
