Volunteering Activities

Helping to prepare food and make guests feel welcome at a weekly charity lunch.

• Streetlight: in groups, going out into the streets of St. Helier, Jersey to offer friendship, guidance and

refreshments to children who may be on their own without parents and would like a friendly face to talk to.

• International Student Volunteers New Zealand – participating in conservation work with other students from

around the world.

• SVP 1833 group in Bath–

o Smallcombe House, a local nursing home

o Faith and Light – a once-monthly programme for people with learning difficulties.

o Julian House – a homeless shelter, helping to serve meals to clients.

• Representing the Department of Computer Science at monthly SSLC and Academic Council meetings.

• Helping to campaign a candidate’s manifesto for Sports, Activities and Development Officer during the Students

Union sabbatical elections.

• Public speaking exercise: ‘Seatbelts Save Lives’.

• Visits during ‘Enrichment periods: a school for children with learning difficulties and a local Nursing Home –

learning to understand the needs and abilities of others less fortunate than myself.

• Representation for Open Days and senior prize-giving ceremonies as Deputy Head Boy.
