Mission statement
To promote a culture where creative practitioners are supported and enabled to reach their artistic and academic potential in educational environments. This is not only achieved through student service, but also through supporting the professional development of staff.
Research/Creative Practice Interest
Investigating jazz improvisational practice through exploring notions of hybridity and interculturality.
Masters research - employment of electronic music's technologically based repetitive and hypnotic forms to distill a jazz improvising aesthetic (humanising the digital terrain)
Doctoral studies - expanding modal jazz thought through codifying historical and cultural ways of engaging melodic (and rhythmic) mode and scale functionality
Professional Practice
I am a bassist, composer and producer working in the contemporary music field, most notably with my own jazz ensemble The Java Quartet (a compositional vehicle), pop/folk group Karma County, and indigenous icon Jimmy Little.

Implementation of Graduate Studies Administration
AIM launched a new graduate Program in 2011. This necessitated the establishment of administrative processes. Please find listed below the tools used to facilitate the administration of this new program.

I have developed the pre-semester proposal as a core document in the negotiation of both major study and research project supervision for both new and continuing candidates.
Coordination and administration of supervision
Assignment of supervision (and supervision of) contemporary performance majors
Development of mid-semester reports
I have restructured this very useful tool to monitor both student progress and supervisor management

Graduate Unit Development
As a part of my duties I have developed the following units through the prism of quality management considering the relationship of:
Graduate attributes Learning outcomes Assessment events
Introduction of Week 3 Proposals
These documents not only function as an assessment tool, but also to gauge student planning, monitor resource use (studio bookings etc.) and identify ethical considerations relating to their research and creative practice
New elective unit M5GA1 Graduate Arranging Techniques - developed with the academic coordinator M Costa
New elective unit M5GP1 Research Methodologies to support a client base of creative practitioners entering graduate study
New elective unit M5GP1 Graduate Special Project to recognise significant external work of graduate students
The amendment of M5FM1 Graduate Film Music in consultation with G White and P Johnston
Redesign of M5RP4 (Research Project 4 - thesis (ii)) Week 3 Proposal assessment event to evidence focus of thesis topic
Redesign of M5RP3 assessment event to better reflect the mid point of thesis writing – engaging a revised (and focused) research proposal and annotated bibliography as assessment tools
Undergraduate Program contributions Performance Studies
The introduction of performance assessment calculators With the contemporary academic coordinator I managed the creation, administration, and staff training for the dissemination of this assessment tool at 6 unit levels. These calculator worksheets delivered more transparent assessment and formative feedback to the student population.
Restructuring of learning outcomes and unit content
With the contemporary academic coordinator I overhauled all learning outcomes for the program (units 1-6, considering lower to higher order thinking skills – Blooms Revised Taxonomy) and rearranged assessment events
I was responsible for the creation of a new Unit 6 to highlight the summative nature of the last of this suite of 6 units.
I was responsible for the redesign of Unit 3 (Jazz) to address the core skills that our clients needed to learn from the jazz repertoire at stage 3.
Currently I am involved with re-structuring the delivery of units 1 and 2 to address issues regarding how our foundation level students learn to learn – especially with regard to written music and ensemble leadership and performance.
