My research explores cultural identity in the post-Redress cultural productions of Canadian Nikkei. It develops a cultural study combining textual analysis, interviews, and multi-sited ethnography to show how cultural identity is constructed, negotiated, reinforced, and deconstructed. I argue that Canadian Nikkei identity is nuanced, pan-Asian, and transnational. Identity is constantly being contested due to a myriad of changing factors that exist within a complicated framework of power.
