Lisa Wymore
Lisa Wymore, Directs the Dance Program within the Department of Theater, Dance and Performance Studies at UC Berkeley. She is a Co-Director, with Sheldon B. Smith, of Smith/Wymore Disappearing Acts – an experimental dance theater company based in the Bay Area. Their work places the inherent beauty of the body in motion, both choreographed and improvised, in deeply conceptual and human-centered environments that are supported and enhanced by technology. From these investigations abstract narratives are built on a foundation of physical experimentation, improvisation, and digital image. Numerous national and international festivals have presented the company’s work. Wymore is also the Director of the Integrated Distance Lab and works on tele-presence investigations, international co-located performance, enhanced real-time video streaming, and interactive sound/media design. She has a long term collaboration with UC Berkeley Professor Ruzena Bajcsy’s 3D Tele-Immersion Lab and currently works with Professor John Crawford (Embodied Media + Performance and Technology Lab, UC Irvine), Professor Sha Xin Wei (Topological Media Lab, Concordia University, Canada), and most recently Professor Niels Lund (World Opera Project, University of Tromsø, Norway). Lisa is a Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst.
