Stavros LAZARIS : Curriculum Vitae

Since my PhD thesis (published by Brepols in 2010: Art et science vétérinaire à Byzance : Formes et fonctions de l’image hippiatrique, Turnhout [Bibliologia 29]), I have been working on the function of medieval illustration in the transmission of scientific knowledge. The equidae and their role in Late Antique army and economy are another major subject of my research.

1.     Illustration in medieval manuscripts and its role in transmitting medical and scientific knowledge (co-director of a research program on Greek illustrated scientific manuscripts at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, 2009-2017);

2.     Horses and their role in the army and the economy of late Antiquity and Byzantium (director of a French national research program on horses in the byzantine army, 2007-2009; co-director of an international research program on equines in relation to urban and rural economy in Byzantium, starting in 2013);

3.     Visual Studies in Antiquity and Byzantium (director of a transversal research program on the luxury in the Visual Studies in Antiquity, starting in 2013; member of an international research program on an analysis of scientific images).
