James L. (Jim) Stokoe
I am a retired regional planner enrolled in the Climate Change and Society track of UNCA's Master of Liberal Arts program. I have a BS in Geology from Michigan State University (1968). After a short career in petroleum exploration geophysics, I came to Western North Carolina and worked for 32 years at our regional planning commission, Land-of-Sky Regional Council. My work at LOSRC focused upon environmental planning, sustainable economic development, alternative energy, land conservation, group facilitation and grant writing.
The website below describes the last project I worked on at LOSRC before my retirement in July, 2010. It is a regional land conservation plan called "Linking Lands and Communities in the Land-of-Sky Region."
I am currently linking my climate science work at UNCA back to my work with the public utilities of the 19 local governments served by LOSRC, asking questions such as, "How might climate change affect the water supply systems in our region?"
